چکیده

The one-pot synthesis of algal biomass/polyethyleneimine beads, ALPEI (electrostatic interaction followed by calcium ionotropic gelation), produces a stable sorbent whose sorption properties for rare earth elements (REEs) are significantly improved functionalization. grafting sulfonic groups (S-ALPEI), which have high affinity REEs, increases capacities as 2.68 mmol Sc g−1, 0.61 Ce g−1 and 0.53 Ho at pH close to 4 (equilibrium pH). Sorption isotherms fitted the Langmuir equation scandium cerium; holmium, Freundlich Sips equations show better fits. occurs within 30–40 min; kinetic profiles pseudo-first order rate Crank (resistance intraparticle diffusion). has marked preference Sc(III) against Ce(III) Ho(III) (confirmed selectivity tests). is also selective REEs alkali-earth elements. three metals readily desorbed (within 20–30 min) using HCl/CaCl2 solution. Desorption remains higher than 99% 5 cycles while performance decreased less 6% fifth cycle. tested recovery valuable from red mud solution different values. Despite large excess heavy in industrial solution, S-ALPEI shows good 3.46 with important enrichment factors (in range 19–118 depending on metal). material fully characterized BET, TGA, FTIR, XPS, elemental analysis, titration SEM-EDX analysis. involves mechanisms (on amine groups) including electrostatic attraction chelation metal speciation.

Removal of Cerium from Aqueous Solutions by Amino Phosphate Modified Nano TiO2: Kinetic, and Equilibrium Studies

Adsorption of Ce(III) from aqueous solution by amino phosphate modified nano TiO2 was investigated. Effects of pH of solution, adsorbent dose, contact time, initial metal concentration and temperature were examined. Experimental data were fitted well by the pseudo second order model. Adsorption was well described by Freundlich isotherm model with a maximum adsorption capacity of 25 mg g-1. Acco...

BP-ANN Approach for Modeling Cd(II) Bio-Sorption from Aqueous Solutions Using Cajanus cajan Husk

This work aims at the modeling of bio-sorption of cadmium(II) onto physically and chemically activated Cajanus cajan (Pigeon pea) husks. Experimental data obtained were fitted to a number of isotherm and kinetic models, and the results interpreted. The monolayer Cd(II) bio-sorption capacities of the husk were found to considerably increase by 2.82 times due to chemical activation, for bio-s...

Synthesis of phosphate-embedded calcium alginate beads for Pb(II) and Cd(II) sorption and immobilization in aqueous solutions

The phosphate-embedded calcium alginate beads were successfully synthesized based on sodium alginate, calcium dihydrogen phosphate and sodium hydrogen carbonate. Scanning electron microscopy, Fourier transformed infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy and X-ray diffraction (XRD) were conducted to characterize the morphology and structure of the phosphate-embedded calcium alginate beads. The effects of pH ...

Aqueous-sensitive reaction sites in sulfonic acid-functionalized mesoporous silicas

Local differences in surface hydrophilicities/hydrophobicities of propyland arene-sulfonic-acid modified mesoporous silica and organosilica catalysts have been compared and correlated with their bulk catalytic properties for aqueous-sensitive organic reactions. Syntheses of propyland arene-SO3H-modified mesoporous silicas and organosilicas yield materials with different hydrophilicities, especi...

Sorption of Trace Constituents from Aqueous Solutions onto Secondary Minerals

-Well-characterized American Petroleum Institute clay standards, source clays from The Clay Minerals Society, and other secondary minerals were used to determine the effects of U concentration, temperature, and solution composition on U-sorption properties. Uranium concentrations ranged from about 1.00 x 10 -4 M to 4.00 x 10 7 M, temperatures from 5 ~ to 65~ and solution compositions containing...
